Unni G. Narayanan

Unni G. Narayanan completed his medical degree in India, orthopaedic residency at the University of Minnesota, and a cerebral palsy & gait analysis fellowship at Gillette Children’s Hospital. He then did his pediatric orthopaedic fellowship at the Hospital for Sick Children (Sickkids) in Toronto following which he completed an MSc (Clinical Epidemiology) before his appointment at Sickkids. He is a full Professor in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto and Senior Associate Scientist at the Research Institute at Sickkids.

His clinical practice is focused on the care of children with cerebral palsy, lower limb deformity and pediatric trauma. His research program has focused on the development of meaningful patient reported outcome measures and applying these in clinical trials to evaluate interventions for pediatric musculoskeletal disorders. He leads the CHOP study, a large international prospective study on CP hip outcomes.  His research is funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research and other agencies.

He has served on the Board of the American Academy of Cerebral Palsy & Developmental Medicine, including as President, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America, currently as Chair of the Research Council. Dr. Narayanan has won numerous research and teaching awards and has traveled widely to present his research and speak about outcomes research, CP, limb deformity, fracture management, and evidence based pediatric orthopaedics.
